EXHIBITS & MUSEUMS

A new museum in Paris

The Quai Branly museum, also known as the ‘Museum of Primitive Arts’ or the ‘Museum of Arts and Civilizations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas’, was designed by architect Jean Nouvel.

Try the ‘Les Ombres’ restaurant on the roof of the museum for an astonishing view of Paris.

Balenciaga Paris

The Museum of Fashion and Textiles pays a vibrant tribute to the exceptional talent of Cristobal Balenciaga Eisaguirre, a great Spanish designer who died in 1972 and whose work influenced many of today’s designers such as Oscar de la Renta, André Courrèges, Emanuel Ungaro and Hubert de Givenchy. The retrospective exhibit retraces the fashion designer’s work and ends with an admiring look at the creations of Nicolas Ghesquière, the house of Balenciaga’s current creative director.

Opening of the Domaine de Marie-Antoinette

Versailles castle offers a new visit: the ‘Domaine de Marie-Antoinette’. This visit is part of the ‘Grand Versailles’ project, the goal of which is to re-emphasize the contrasts that were once Versailles: baroque and classical styles, simplicity and extravagance, and the masculine influence of Louis XIV contrasted with the feminine touches first of Madame de Pompadour and then of Marie-Antoinette.

Orangerie Museum

Thanks to renovation work on the museum, visitors can now appreciate Monet's great water lily mural to the fullest. This poem to nature can once again be contemplated as the artist intended—bathed in natural light. And of course, the Jean Walter - Paul Guillaume collection is not to be missed.

Avoid waiting in line: tickets available at the Orangerie Loge, 1934 :

Painters of Reality

The first exhibit since the museum’s renovation is designed to make a symbolic connection between the past and future of the Orangerie by evoking one of its most famous and fruitful past exhibitions: “Painters of Reality in France in the 17th Century”, which was organized by Paul Jamot and Charles Sterling in 1934. This exhibit lastingly renewed interest in 17th century French art and introduced the public to the works of Georges de La Tour.

Egypt’s Sunken Treasures

The main hall of the Grand Palais is hosting an exhibition of nearly 500 exceptional objects discovered off the Egyptian coast. These ‘sunken treasures’ were discovered over a ten-year period by archeologists working under the direction of Franck Goddio. The objects retrace the history of Egypt, from the last pharaohs to Alexander the Great, from Greek conquests to the Roman Empire and from the Christian era to the rise of Islam.

Les Figures d’Eros - The Eros figures
